The subspecies that occurs in our area is the Pacific Gophersnake (Pituophis catenifer catenifer).

Taxonomy Notes
Historically this snake was considered to be a subspecies of Pituophis melanoleucus and may be referred to as Pituophis melanoleucus catenifer in some texts.
