Taxonomic Etymology
Taxonomy Notes
Historically this species had several subspecies:
- Pacific Rubber Boa (Charina bottae bottae)
- Rocky Mountain Rubber Boa (Charina bottae utahensis)
- Southern Rubber Boa (Charina bottae umbratica)
The Rocky Mountain subspecies was invalidated, considered to be the same subspecies as the Pacific Rubber Boa. At that point, the common name for that subspecies was usually referred to as Northern Rubber Boa. Since then, the Southern Rubber Boa has been elevated to species status and Charina bottae took on Northern Rubber Boa as the post split common name.
Thus, there are currently no recognized subspecies to Charina bottae.
